Ecology, Christian Faith and Action

Mount Martha Uniting Church is committed to caring for our planet and responding to climate change. This care is expressed through practical action in our own life as a congregation, worship and spirituality, education and advocacy to government

Mount Martha Uniting Church goes solar

20170207 Solar panel installation at Mount Martha Uniting Church (8)aSolar panels are now installed on our hall and providing our day time electricity needs for hall and church (if you’ve never been during the week there’s a lot of activity going on around the place). In the coming years we hope to install a battery.

Together with the installation of energy efficient light bulbs and changes to practices this forms another step in our seeking to reduce our  carbon footprint. A Heat Pump has just replaced an old electric hot water  service.

Revegetating our 1 Hectare Property

Extensive work over 2022/23 has been occurring clearing overgrown Kikuyu and preparing for native plantings. Thanks to the efforts of the congregation, neighbours, friends, a Mornington Peninsula Shire Grant and The Mornington Peninsula Koala Tree planting Group we have planted in excess of 600 native and indigenous plants. The work continues with the invitation for community involvement as we enjoy overseeing a “rewilding” of the property. A trail of reflection (Peace Trail) now traverses the 1 hectare property giving walkers the opportunity to see the revegetation of the property, relax, refresh and reflect at designated points of interest including native bushland, a memorial garden, community productive garden, citrus grove and White Ribbon Day commemorative rose garden dedicated to women.

Koala Conservation

In August 2024 in conjunction with the other Uniting Churches on the Port Phillip Bay side of the Mornington Peninsula, we will again be hosting a “Walk for a Cause ” 2 day event which this year is partnering with The Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation group. Walkers will experience some amazing Peninsula bushland and raise awareness and funding towards the work of The Koala Conservation group. We will get to assist in a major tree planting day at The Briars and see some of the areas on the Peninsula where replanting work has previously occurred. Details of this event including track and registration details will progressively be found on our coming Events page. We’d love to have you join us!
